CENTIPEDES

Appearance:
Centipedes coloring is the combination of red and brown. combining shades of brown and red. Size:
Size may range from a few millimeters to 30 cm.

Behavior:
The rold of a Centipede male is to deposit a spermatophore for the female to comsume. Egg laying  usually occurs in spring time and summer time. They lay their eggs one by one in holes in the soil, the female will then fill the hole in on the egg and leave. They lay 10-50 eggs at a time. The eggs will then take about a month or more to hatch.

Habitat:
Centipedes can be found in soil, underneath deadwood and stones, inside of logs and other similar places.

CRICKETS

Appearance:
Crickets have a yellowish-brown color. They have three dark bands on their heads with a thin antenna.

Size:
Length is about ¾ inches

Behavior:      
Crickets are omnivores. They are prone to carry a large number of diseases. The most popular is known to cause painful sores. These diseases can be spread through their bite, feces, or physical contact. These diseases are non fatal to humans. Crickets are highly recognized by their chirping sounds, which can only be performed by the males. They are also known to be nocturnal which means most of their activity takes place during nightfall.

Habitat:
Crickets can be found living under rocks and logs in meadows. Pastures and roadsides are also known homes.

EARWIGS

Appearance
Earwigs appear as a dark brown color. They have forceps-like cerci that look like pinchers extending from their rear abdomen.

Size
Length is 1 inch.

Behavior
Earwigs feed on plants, fruit, garbage, and other insects. Earwigs are nocturnal so they spend there days in search of food and water.

Habitat
Earwigs can be found around homes hiding in garden plants, shrubbery, woodpiles, bases of trees, along fences and also behind any loose building boards.

LADY BUGS

Appearance
Lady bugs are yellow, orange or scarlet with small black dots on their wings.

Size
About 0.04-.4 inches

Behavior
lady bugs are very helpful to gardeners. They feed on scale insects which are usually viewed as pests to gardeners.

Habitat
Some lady bugs prefer higher land like mountains while other are likely to be found among plants.

MILLIPEDES

Appearance:
Millipedes are a brownish-black color with shades of red,
brown and/or orange. They are slightly flattened. Each of their body segments have two legs. They are usually found curled
up into a “C” shape.

Size:
About ½-1 ¼ in length.

Behavior:
Millipedes feed on living as well as decomposing vegetation which includes, dead insects, worms and snails. They are unable to handle water which is why they are often found on soil surfaces. Millipedes are non-poisonous but they do produce a liquid that can cause an allergic reaction to some humans.

Habitat:
Millipedes will inhabit any moist, dark and cool environment.

MOSQUITOES

Appearance:
Mosquitoes have large mouth parts which they use for biting and scaly wings

Size:
About ½ inch in length.

Behavior:
Mosquitoes feed off of human blood. Without human blood they are unable to produce eggs. Mosquitoes have been a threat to society. They transmit viruses and diseases that could cause severe health problems for humans as well as livestock and animals.

Habitat:
Mosquitos breed on standing water. They can be found among tree hollows and can easily gain access inside of homes, buildings and other structures. Their breeding grounds are usually close by them.

PILLBUGS (roly-polies)

Appearance:
Pillbugs have oval shaped, flat bodies. They are wingless and either brown or gray in color. Their bodies also have overlapping plates and seven pairs of legs.

Size:
About ¾ an inch in length.

Behavior:
Pillbugs are often referred to as “wood lice.” They’ve earned this nick name by being a nuisance to developing plants. Although they are drawn to damp areas, if they come in contact with too much water they will drown which is why they are often found floating in pools.

Habitat:
Pillbugs are drawn to damp areas such as garages but they are most likely to be found outdoors amongst wood and plants.

SCORPIONS

Appearance:
Scorpions are dark brown. Their bodies are flat. They have eight legs and the front pair resembles claws

Size:
About 1-4 inches in length.

Behavior:
Scorpions are mostly active at night. They don’t lay eggs, their young is born alive. Scorpions usually feed on insects but will occasionally feed on their own kind. If they are placed under a ultraviolet light will glow. Scorpion stings are extremely dangerous to anyone whom is allergic.

Habitat:
Scorpions will inhabit any outside area that can provide them protection usually under objects such as boards.

SOWBUGS

Appearance: 
Sow-bug bodies are long, oval and flat. They are wingless and brown or gray in color. They have seven pairs of legs and overlapping plates on their bodies.

Size: 
About ¾ inch long.

Behavior: 
Sow-bugs are a menace to young plants. They feed off of their roots and can cause great problems to any gardens or greenhouses. They are drawn to damp environments. If they come in contact with too much they will drown.

Habitat: 
Sow-bugs will inhabit any damp area such as garages and green houses.
