Appearance:
Blue bottle flies resemble the average house fly but they are shiny
blue in color
Behavior:
Blue bottle flies deposit their eggs in rotting organic matter. For example they are commonly found swarming around dead animal carcasses or trash areas. Blue bottle flies produce a loud buzzing sound.
Habitat:
Blue bottle flies are often found on windows. If they are present indoors it may have become their breeding ground. Breaks in sewer pipes, and garbage areas should be inspected.

Appearance:
Flesh flies are black and gray in color. There larva appear as yellowish maggots.
Size:
Their length ranges from 10-22 mm.
Behavior:
Flesh flies breed in decaying materials. They are known as “flesh” flies because unlike the average fly they may lay there eggs in the open wounds of mammals. Flesh flies feed off of the larvae of other insects such as beetles, caterpillars, and snails. They may also feed off of decaying vegetable matter as well.
Habitat:
Flesh flies can be found among any decaying substance and are uncommon in households and restaurants.

Appearance:
Gnats are very small winged insects. They are gray or black in color and resemble small mosquitoes
Size:
About 3-4 mm in length
Behavior:
Gnats feed on plants but some are known to be carnivorous. Gnats often stick together within large swarms.
Habitat:
Gnats are very popular among greenhouses and homes that have access to rooted plants.

Appearance:
Green bottle flies are slightly larger than house flies. They are blue and green with black markings. Their wings are clear and veined in brown. Their legs and antennae are black.
Size:
Length is less than ¼ inch
Behavior:
Green bottle flies feed on dog feces, any exposed food and decomposing plants and/ or animals. They are able to breed inside of dead animals which may cause a problem if one has a rodent problem in their home.
Habitat:
They are commonly found among any rotting substance such as garbage, vegetables, and meat. They are rarely found inside of homes due to light.

Appearance:
House flies are gray in color and usually have four black stripes on their thorax.
Size:
Length is less than ¼ inch
Behavior:
House flies feed off of a wide variety of food including human and animal food. They will also feed on carcasses and garbage. They can lay up to 100 eggs which take 12 to 24 hours to hatch.
Habitat:
House flies a normally found lodging on thin objects, corners or ledges. Inside of the home they will rest on floors, ceilings and walls during the day. At night time they usually nest close by food sources.

Appearance:
The screw worm fly is green in blue in color. They are referred to as the “screwworm” fly because they have small spines on each body segment that resemble a screw’s threads.
Size:
About 8-10 mm in length
Behavior:
Screw worm flies eat and infest the flesh of living organisms, primarily warm-blooded animals such as cattle and other livestock
Habitat:
Screw worm flies are most commonly found among dead bodies or carasses.
